Standard vises are used in many applications to hold various workpieces, including different iron castings, continuous cast iron stock, steel forgings, and aluminum billets. A modular clamping system increases your capacity by allowing continuous three-sided machining and reducing the amount of steps involved with standard vises, including:
- Position the workpiece in a vise
- Machine the workpiece
- Reposition the workpiece
- Check the workpiece
- Machine it again
- Repeat
Anytime the workpiece is touched, delays occur which cost manufacturers both in dollars and efficiency.
Continuous Three-Sided Machining with Modular Clamping System
Switching to a modular clamping system allows for continuous three-sided machining and eliminates much of the handling and machine downtime that occurs with traditional vises.
This is accomplished with a series of clamps affixed to base rails by precision serrations. Special jaws or dedicated components can be attached to the rails as needed.
The gripper holes that are designed into the tapped jaw face and the four-point carbide grippers can accommodate various sizes and weights.
A modular clamping system allows manufacturers to machine small quantities of larger parts or bigger batches of smaller parts through quick and accurate fixturing.
It's only fair to share...
